Sharla-Jaye Duncan

As FIGR’s Social Impact Advisor, Sharla-Jaye will help to consider the current and potential social impact of investment opportunities on people from a diverse range of backgrounds. As a Black woman from a low-income background, Sharla-Jaye has focused her career on creating positive social impact, with a lifelong desire to see individuals from low-income and underrepresented backgrounds succeed and thrive. In 2012, she founded Team Up, an award-winning social enterprise that supports young people to access tuition. For the last few years, SJ has been establishing and leading Journi and Day One, a linked business and non-profit supporting people from underrepresented groups to access and thrive in professional careers.

Sharla-Jaye is also a Trustee of the Centre for Innovation in Voluntary Action, which develops and funds new ideas for addressing social problems, and has been named as EY’s Social Entrepreneur of the Year and one of Ultld’s Fast Growth awardees.

Sharla-Jaye has a BSc in Biochemistry from King’s College London and an MSc from the University of Oxford.
